Western
Association
of Ballet Schools
Eight dancing
schools from Bournemouth, Poole and Southbourne are at present affiliated
and the record is an impressive, if not unprecedented one, an
extensive repertoire of full scale choreographic and dramatic
presentations of notable originality have been produced so far,
involving some five thousand or so young people to date. The involvement
of celebrities such as the late Johnny Morris, Roy Castle and
Buster Merrifield together with Tony Hart and Sean Street have
added to the excitement of our productions. The Association also
collaborated from 1986 until 1990 with the Bournemouth Sinfonietta
and Howard Blake himself in performances of his popular composition The Snowman.
Productions
currently at the Pavilion Theatre, Bournemouth have also taken
place in the Winter Gardens, Bournemouth and at the Poole Arts
Centre with smaller productions at the Barrington Theatre, Ferndown
and the Layard Theatre at Canford School.
Children from
the affiliated schools have also been able to take part in
workshops taken by our President Wayne Sleep and other professional choreographers.
In 2002 a grant scheme was
set up to assist
children from affiliated schools to take part in summer schools
and acredited courses.
